The geriatric discipline is part of the 11th semester of medical doctors’ education. Co-workers from the department give lectures in care-giving and offer courses at the university. The postgraduate education at the department has resulted in 26 dissertations. Furthermore, they organize post-graduate courses, so-called SK-courses, for medical doctors, especially in acute geriatrics.

In collaboration with Region Skåne, the Department of Geriatrics offers education in traffic medicine (primarily elderly drivers), pressure wounds and geriatric nutrition. Geriatric nutrition aims to study malnutrition, incidence, and assessment and strategies for intervention. Furthermore, the interaction between different nutrients and the chances of malady, particularly osteoporosis are research areas that are included in the education.
